MATERIALS
ACTIVITIES
  1. Tell students they will be working on a scavenger hunt together. They will need to look closely at the gallery wall created by 3rd-grade students. Assign students to partnerships.

  2. Pairs of students will pick cards (1-2) out of a bin and work in partners to find the information on the gallery wall. Once they find the information, ask them to gather on a carpet square and wait to share information with the group to discuss. If it is inaccurate, ask them to show you where they found it, and redirect them as needed. (See answer sheet)

  3. Extra time:
    • Fill in the Penguin pages in the Oceans 411 Booklet.

    • Read Penguin Books (plastic bin) on carpet squares

    • Students can work together placing 11 species of penguins on the map where they live (habitat).

Possible extensions:
  • Have students share out the information they found and where they found the information

  • Have students write a scavenger hunt question that was not on the scavenger hunt and swap cards with someone in their group

  • Ask students to share something new they learned

  • Sketch one of the penguins on the wall
