Invertebrates of the Wetlands/Dragonflies
Rotation 1Rotation 2Rotation 3
WHEREClassroom: Slide show (2nd-3rd & 4th-6th) and short video of invertebrates and the life cycle of the dragonfly.Classroom: Posterboard introduction to the life cycle and role of dragonflies in the wetlands. Make dragonflies.Break-Out Room: 8th Graders play an invertebrates game with small groups of students.
Outside: 8th grader play an outside invertebrate game with small groups of students.
WHO8th Graders and Lead TeacherTeacher and aides lead the discussion and assist students in making dragonflies.8th Graders
MATERIALSComputers and projector.
Materials: tongue depressors, hot glue guns, yarn, iridescent mylar (for wings), google eyes, pipe cleaners for antennaeBoard games and prizes, traffic cones and invertebrates signs.
ACTIVITIES8th graders present slide show of wetland invertebrates. Teacher shows short video of the life cycle of the dragonfly.Students participate in discussion of dragonflies and their role in the wetlands environment. Then they make their own dragonfly.Students play games as they move through the rotation.
